I don't know what movies most reviewers are basing their expectations on, but if you go into the cinema expecting a visually polished, nicely paced, entertaining fantasy-in-space action flick, that's exactly what you're going to get. Is it the best or most original in its genre? No. Is it easy to sit through the 2,5 hours this thing is long? Yes. Does it suck you into that very typical Star Wars universe of the first movies through visuals, music and humour? Absolutely.
Verdict: the plot won't stand up to close scrutiny, but if you turn off the over-analyzing part of your brain and accept that plot-holes and goofs actually add to the charm of the thing, you're in for a very enjoyable night out.

The movie had a disappointing plot but at least it had one as opposed to TLJ being waffle for 2 hours and a half.
Pretty disappointing that interesting ideas such as Finn's background are never used.
My main issue is that this movie contradicts the previous ones including episodes 7 and 8. A non-spoiler example would be that the movie starts off with everyone aware of Palpatine even mentioning it in the opening crawl when in TFA (written and directed by the same person) the Jedi, Sith and the Force was all considered a "myth.
This new trilogy should have focused on rebuilding the Republic with Leia as well as rebuilding the Jedi Order with Luke. The prequel trilogy with all its flaws at least served a purpose of showing a republic falling from within, this trilogy serves the same purpose of defeating and rebelling against the Empire that the original trilogy had except done worse with less interesting characters.
