LITTLE joe satriani. My son and I called the entire plot in the first 10 minutes of the film. Then we had to sit through the next 2 1/2 hours for it to happen. Some people actually praised this film for only spending over 40 million. All this without special affects, filmed in about four rooms with eight actors. An amazing waste of time and money. Sorry. De New York 68 à Hollywood 72: une plongée enthousiasmante dans les errances d’une humanité cabossée. En novembre 2013, Pierre Maillet présentait son remarquable Little Joe – New York 68 au Maillon, à Strasbourg, spectacle adapté des deux premiers volets de la trilogie Flesh, Trash, Heat de Paul Morrissey*. C’est à la Comédie de Saint-Etienne, le 24 février dernier, que le metteur en scène et comédien a créé Little Joe – Hollywood 72, la seconde partie de son diptyque hommage au cinéaste américain. Passant du New York underground de la drogue et de la prostitution au Los Angeles des stars déchues et des aspirants à la célébrité, le cofondateur du Théâtre des Lucioles réitère, dans ce nouvel opus, le défi qu’il avait brillamment relevé dans son première travail: se réapproprier, par le théâtre, l’univers brut et singulier des films expérimentaux réalisés par le complice d’Andy Warhol. Même scénographie gigogne que New York 68 (de Marc Lainé), même présence loufoque de figures incertaines et bariolées (les costumes sont de Zouzou Leyens, les coiffures et maquillages de Cécile Kretschmar), même réalisme stylisé, Hollywood 72 nous transporte dans un monde de rêves et de désillusions. Entre burlesque et désespérance Un monde peuplé d’existences dérisoires et même, par certains aspects, assez pathétiques. Mais Pierre Maillet parvient – petit miracle de sa double proposition – à nous attacher à ces tranches de vie dans lesquelles il ne se passe pourtant pas grand-chose. Désœuvrement, coucheries, plans carriéristes… Le metteur en scène suscite de bout en bout notre intérêt, nous fait rire, nous touche même, en laissant percer derrière ces histoires de rien les blessures d’une humanité fragile, déjà perdue. Si ce n’était cette ombre qui plane, tout serait ici entièrement joyeux. On plonge dans des piscines, on rit, on chante, on se pavane en maillots de bain pour se dénuder à la première occasion. On incarne des personnages qui semblent inventer, dans l’instant même de la représentation, ce qu’ils sont en train de vivre. Clément Sibony (dans le rôle emblématique de Joe), Véronique Alain, Emilie Beauvais, Geoffrey Carey, Matthieu Cruciani, Denis Lejeune et Pierre Maillet sont les étonnants interprètes de ce tableau hollywoodien. Visually appealing but irritating. I don't know if that's what the producers of this were hoping for, and if so they managed to get on my nerves a lot. Everything from the music, to the main characters inability to register what's happening in front of her face. It's basically a film about a plant gaslighting a woman for two hours. I don't know what the film makers were going for and that makes this a bland and slow film. Le nouveau film réalisé par Jessica Hausner, Little Joe sort en salles aujourd’hui. Rencontre avec ses comédiens. Le cinéma de la réalisatrice autrichienne Jessica Hausner est assez radical et poétique à la fois, c’est ce qui fait sans doute son charme. A ses débuts, elle fut à l’école de Michael Haneke  (script sur Funny Games) et bien évidemment cela transparait dans son cinéma et sa façon de diriger ses comédiens. Ce n’est donc pas un hasard si l’interprétation d’ Emily Beecham, l’héroïne de son dernier film Little Joe (en salles aujourd’hui), fut saluée lors du dernier festival de Cannes par un prix d’interprétation. Nous avons rencontré l'actrice en compagnie du français Phénix Brossard également dans Little Joe, lors du récent festival de Dinard, pour nous parler de la "méthode"  Jessica Hausner.
